MENSTRONAUTS
The old Foyles building, Balfron Tower, spaces that are in between uses, being made into luxury flats or new developments, have often been occupied by the art community through facilitators like Bow Arts Trust, or by artist like Roger Hiorn whose work SEIZURE, a alchemic transformation of a council flat soon to be demolished was nominated for a Turner Prize. Here at the old Foyles building the performance artist Marisa Carnesky has been allowed to use the space to run 'Carnesky's Finishing School' see here http://sohotheatre.com/whats-on/carneskys-finishing-school-evening-classes/A performing arts space that runs courses, puts on events, and is a rehearsal space for Carnesky's shows. the photographs here are portraits of activists called The MENSTRONAUTS, a group of female identifying feminists inspired by academic Camilla Powers- Radical Anthropology Group-http://radicalanthropologygroup.org The group met on the DARK MOON each month for a year to formulate their new show which will be on at the soho theatre this November through december http://sohotheatre.com/whats-on/dr-carneskyandrsquo-s-incredible-bleeding-woman/
